Welcome to my blog, my name is Elaine. I grew up in Malaysia and moved to Ontario, Canada in 2012 with my husband and two wonderful boys. I am truly blessed to be a stay-at-home mom to two wonderful boys aged 8 and 2, with all the support I could ever need from my wonderful husband and by the grace of our loving God.
I don’t know if we can call ourselves a homeschooling family if only one child goes to it and is still 1.5 years away from being eligible to attend Kindergarten in public school. But we’re doing lots of Montessori learning at home, and I don’t know what else to call it so I’m sticking with it. (M is 8 years old, goes to public school and is loving every moment of it!)
Life took an unexpected turn in 2009 when I was laid off from my corporate Marketing job. I decided I would take the chance to explore doing something I always had a passion for — teaching children. The owner and principal of a great Montessori preschool took me in and that is how I discovered the Montessori method. M later went to this Montessori preschool when he was 4 years old.
When Z was born in 2012, I told myself I needed to start doing Montessori at home from birth — why wait? My research started online where I saw overflowing testimonies and I quickly wanted to get a more formal Montessori training. So I enrolled in a year-long online Montessori course.
I want to say this blog is my attempt to journal our learning and parenting moments at home. But honestly, the purpose of this blog was and still is to help keep me accountable to our Montessori homeschooling. (It’s like spending the money on a treadmill so that you’re forced to exercise. Bloggin’ ain’t free!)
That was how it started, but then I quickly found an awesome and supportive network of homeschoolers and wonderful moms all the around the world. And now I want to share our experiences and progress in hopes of inspiring and helping others, the way they inspired me.
Last but certainly not least, I am a blessed child of God. I recently started teaching Sunday School in my church on a part-time basis and am loving every minute of it! I am also a guest writer at Christian Montessori Network, where I write about incorporating Montessori-inspired activities and Montessori principles in children’s Bible learning.
My big hope is that you’ll find my website informative, useful and helpful. If you do, won’t you join me on Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter and subscribing to my newsletter. Let’s get connected — I’d love to hear from you!
