Yesterday morning, I woke up to a mess of art cards on our mindful learning nook once again. Does this make me upset? Absolutely not! I am thrilled that these art cards are engaging my 3.5 and 9 year old — the mess is evidence of that. They are exploring these art cards on their own in addition to the conversations that we have together each week.
I went through the entire stash to see if I can find art cards specific for each continent so we can use those specifically when we work on our continent activities. There are more than enough art cards to cover Europe, Asia, Africa, North America and South America; I wish they had more coverage for Oceania (the only one I found is actually an artist from Europe, but inspired by and painted while he was in Tahiti).
However, I am pleased with the variety of art that is shown on these art cards. They don’t only include traditional and famous paintings, but as you can see from the photos below, art comes in many forms including furniture, jewelry, sculpture, fashion, photography, etc.
My 9 year old sees an art card and he asks “Is that an art?” I love how this is opening our eyes and awareness each and every day — deliberate yet natural.
Here are a few unusual examples that I’ve selected from each continent that I want to share with you.
